  • Type : International Practice
  • Release Date : 2007-11-16

Australia hosted the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2007.  During this time, Australian Customs has played an integral role in APEC through participating in various forums and ensuring delivery of its security requirements, particularly when Leaders from the 21 APEC Member Economies met in Sydney in September.

Specifically, Australian Customs has organised, hosted and chaired the APEC Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) and APEC Customs-Business Dialogue (ACBD). It has also played a key role in the Secure Trade in the APEC Region (STAR) conference and participated in the APEC Transport Ministerial Industry Showcase.

Customs-related policy outcomes for APEC 2007 are highlighted in the publication APEC Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures

Australian Customs has been involved in two key business forums during APEC 2007. It has hosted the annual APEC Customs-Business Dialogue (ACBD), which provides an opportunity for customs administrations and the business community to exchange views on trade facilitation and border management priorities and practices. It has also been involved in the Secure Trade in the APEC Region (STAR) conference, which was developed to address the threat of terrorism and security issues in the APEC Region, in partnership with industry. Customs worked closely with our industry stakeholders and the APEC Business Advisory Council in planning and delivering these meetings.

During APEC 2007, Australian Customs has progressed initiatives in the areas of supply chain security, paperless trading and reform of the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures (SCCP) working methods.
