Jiangsu's textile and garment exports up 38pc in first four months

NANJING customs' statistics show that east China's Jiangsu province exported US$910 million in textile and garments from January to April, up 38.2 per cent year on year, Xinhua reports.


The province's textile and garment exports kept a steady growth since the beginning of this year, except for a slip to US$170 million in February because of the annual Chinese New Year holiday disruption. April's export value increased 39.2 per cent year on year and 14.1 per cent over March to $260 million.


In the first four months, textile and garment exports under general trade grew 37.1 per cent to $520 million, taking up 56.9 per cent of the province's textile and garment export total. Exports in the processing trade increased 40.4 per cent to $370 million, representing 40.5 per cent of the total.


Exports to EU increased 39.6 per cent to $150 million. Those to Japan rose 36.2 per cent to $130 million. Those to US grew 3.2 per cent to $100 million. Exports to these three markets accounted for 42 per cent of the province's textile and garment export total, down 3.9 percentage points year on year.


Exports to Bangladesh soared 81.9 per cent to $100 million. Those to ASEAN surged 87.8 per cent to $90 million. Those to Latin America surged 89.5 per cent to $50 million. Exports to these three markets took up 26.1 per cent of the total, 6.7 percentage points more than in the same period a year ago.


Foreign-invested firms accounted for 50.5 per cent of the total by exporting $460 million's textile and garment, up 40.7 per cent. Domestic private firms' exports increased 50.4 per cent to $240 million, taking up 26.1 per cent of the total. State-owned companies' exports grew 24.4 per cent to $200 million, representing 22.3 per cent of the total.
