Grand Alliance slow steams, adds Viet call to transpac SCX

Mar 29, 2010 Shipping

GRAND Alliance (GA) has added the Vietnamese port of Cai Mep to its SCX service between Asia and the US West Coast, to which it also plans to introduce slow steaming operations with the addition of an eighth vessel effective April.

Transit time between Cai Mep and Los Angeles will be 26 days - longer than the 16-20 day passages offered by GA's competitors. The duration is also longer than that of Cai Mep's existing transhipment service to Los Angeles via Singapore, Alphaliner reports.

The addition of a new west-bound route will take the GA's North American services from Cai Mep - which also includes an east coast connection via the company's Asia-Med-USEC service - to a total of six a week.
