ALATAW PASS, the largest inland port in western China bordering Kazakhstan, posted a 7.7 per cent increase in import and export freight volume to 3.95 million tonnes in the first two months, reports Xinhua.
The overland port has recorded the largest volume nationwide for such facilities over two months. Import cargo came to 3.15 million tonnes with a 3.7 per cent increase while exports were up 27 per cent to 795,000 tonnes.
The trade value stood at US$2.25 billion, rising 30 per cent year on year and contributing $2.2 billion to custom duties. The import cargo focused on high value bulk cargo such as crude oil and iron ore.
