New Mangalore port posts sharp growth in box traffic

The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has witnessed a 251 per cent growth in container traffic in the current financial year, reported The Hindu.

The port handled 7,659 TEUs of containers till Wednesday as against 2,180 TEUs handled during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, recording a growth of 251 per cent.

The growth was attributed to port infrastructure addition and marketing drive.

The port, which handled 8,943 TEUs during 2004-05, handled 31,456 TEUs during 2009-10.
