- With a further order from Lebanon and a follow-up order from Qatar, Gottwald Port Technology GmbH (Gottwald) is strengthening its position in the Middle East. Beirut Container Terminal Consortium (BCTC), Lebanon, has ordered a G HMK 4406 model 4 mobile harbour crane and Qatar Petroleum, Qatar, has opted for another G HMK 6407 model 6 unit.
The G HMK 4406 - the first Gottwald Generation 5 mobile harbour crane in Lebanon is handling containers at BCTC. Two used Gottwald mobile harbour cranes have been operating in the container terminal for some time.
According to Gottwald, the compact and highly versatile Model 4 is the latest addition to the Generation 5 family and with lifting capacities of up to 100 tonnes and a maximum radius of 46 m, it is ideally suited to the requirements of universal and special purpose terminals alongside vessels up to Panamax size.
“We opted for a Gottwald mobile harbour crane because we need high-performance, economic and universally applicable handling equipment,” said Khalid Mahdy, BCTC’s technical manager.
The second G HMK 6407 for Qatar Petroleum in Port Al Mesaieed which is used for handling bulk and general has a lifting capacity of up to 100 tonnes and a working radius of up to 51 m. Gottwald said that the principle areas of application for the Model 6 embrace high-end, high-speed container handling including twin lift mode and continuous bulk handling.
