German ports face reduction of container volumes

Aug 12, 2009 Port

A 10% reduction in the volume of containers passing through German ports was recorded for the first half of the year, according to Irish Trucker.

Terminal operator Eurogate announced that its volumes were down by 10% compared to the same period last year with a downturn in world trade being blamed as the reason for the drop.

Container terminals operated by Contship Italia, saw a more stable performance owing to a positive handling trend at the CICT terminal in Cagliari in particular. It suffered an overall decline of only 2.9% to 2.7m teu.
