At the end of last week Luka Koper Container terminal moored the largest container vessel that has ever called Koper. The “Ital Laguna”, whose over-all length is 294 meters, can carry up to 5,100 TEUs and is operated by the Evergreen Corporation,. The ship provides a direct service from Far East to Koper and other Adriatic ports.
In the first two months of 2008 the Container terminal handled 55,441 TEUs, which represents a 26% increase compared to the same period last year. This figure also represents almost 20% of the 2007 total container throughput (305,648 TEU).
The new container quayside - construction works are in full swing - is hardly anticipated by the Container terminal and its customers. After the accomplishment the terminal will be capable to berth vessels with a capacity up to 8,000 TEUs.
