Eighty-four lose ABX Air jobs in Ohio with DHL pullout

Jan 20, 2009 Logistics

ABX AIR is to lay off further staff following DHL's move to transfer its Wilmington freight hub work to UPS at Louisville, Kentucky, with the cuts affecting technicians and machinists, said a statement released on the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services website.

Following restructuring, which will save US$1 billion a year labour costs, the Wilmington hub is expected to play no role in DHL's future as it limits American service to international routes only, reported The Dayton Daily News.

As a result ABX, one of the main employers at the Wilmington hub, has made at least 386 layoffs since end of year with an overall drop in capacity of 2,700 employees since May 2008.
