Nippon wins pallet-building gong, JAL best forklifter at HK meet

NIPPON Cargo Airlines won the 2009 International Forklift and Pallet Building Competition organised by Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) and held at the SuperTerminal 1 at Hong Kong International Airport.


Nippon also won the pallet building title. JAL Cargo won both the safety and forklift driving awards while Air China Cargo won the manual lifting and outstanding handling award.


The event, which has taken place for three years in a row. Hactl has been organising various industry-wide safety campaigns and events, promoting industry best practices and safety awareness, said Hactl managing director Anthony Wong. In 2008, work injury cases reduced to only 62 cases compared with 78 cases in 2007, greatly exceeding our original target of 74 cases.


Seven international airlines took part in the event, namely Air China Cargo, British Airways, EVA AIR, JAL Cargo, KLM Cargo, MASkargo and Nippon Cargo Airlines, to demonstrate their safety consciousness as well as skills in forklift truck operations and pallet building. Hactl also deployed its own team to take part in the competition.
