PKP Intercity to compensate passengers

Jun 22, 2009 Logistics

Starting from September, the Polish national railway operator PKP Intercity will compensate passengers in the form of rebate coupons if their train is late, Railway Market - CEE Review reported.

The coupon could be used while purchasing the next ticket.
The new program is the effect of a European Union directive that is pushing the program to be effect by autumn, Polskie Radio reports.

Spokesperson for PKP Intercity, Pawel Ney, stated that the rules are not set in stone, but the program will resemble those of international train services. International rail carriers compensate passengers 25 percent of the ticket price for a delay of up to one hour and for up to 2 hours, a passenger receives 50 percent of the ticket value in return.

Ney highlighted the fact that there will be terms for negotiating cash returns in usual circumstances, but likely only after filing a written claim. Compensation for late trains will go into effect on regional and express trains.
