China Port Profile
  • Port of Dalian was founded in 1899.It is located at the central point of West Pacific, center of the arising Northeast Asian economic circle, the gateway for this region to the Pacific and the rest of the world. It covers a water area of 346 km2 and a land area of nearly 15 km2.There are 160 km of specialized railway lines,300,000 m2 of warehouses,1.8million km2 of stacking yards and over 1,000 units of different types of loading and discharging machinery and equipment. It operates nearly 80 specialized modern berths for containers, crude oil, product oils, grains, coal, bulk minerals, chemical products and passenger/cargo roll/roll transportation, among which 40 berths are over 10,000 dwt. Port of Dalian has the Nation's largest 300,000 dwt crude oil terminal and 300,000 dwt ore terminal. Dayao Bay Port is one of the four international deep-water transshipment ports designated by the Central Government as key projects.
  • The Port of Tianjin is located in the estuary of the Haihe River just over 100 miles east of Beijing. It is mainland China's biggest man-made sea and river port. The Port of Tianjin has a busy container terminal, with throughput of 240 million tons in 2005. Cargo shipments equaled 96 thousand tons in 2005, and they are expected to grow to 500 thousand tons by 2010. Tianjin's Binhai New Area (BNA) may be the most profitable economic zone in China, and many foreign companies have located there. Information technology is a rapidly-growing sector of the local economy. With almost 100 miles of coastline, the BNA is home to almost three million people and includes the Port of Tianjin, the Tianjin Economic and Technological Development area, and the Free Trade Zone. The Chinese government offers strong support for port expansion and development, and $26 billion (US) was invested there over the last 10 years.
  • Located in Zhifu Bay on the northern shore of Shandong Peninsula, Yantai Port overlooks Liaodong Peninsula across the sea. Yantai Port consists of three parts: Zhifu Bay Port Area, Western Port Area and Penglai Port Area. Zhifu Bay Port Area covers a water area of 867.4 square kilometers and a land area of 5 million square meters,with a coastal line of 7 km. Western Port Area covers a land area of 50 square kilometers, with a planned costal line of 19 km. The Western Port of Yantai is situated in the west of the city proper, as well as beside the northeast sea of Dajijia Village in Yantai Economic & Technological Development Zone (YETDZ), with a distance of 35 km on the sea and a distance of 30 km on land to Zhifu Bay. The costal line totals 15.5 km in length, consisting of an east line of 9 km and a north line of 6.5 km. The Western Port covers a land area of 50 square km, including a port operation zone of 24 square km.
  • Qingdao lies on the south coast of the Shantung Peninsula on Kiaochow Bay, between Beijing to the northwest and Shanghai to the southeast. Today, Qingdao is also a large fishing port that's also known for its beautiful parks and beaches. It's an important cultural center, being home to many institutions of higher education, including three oceanographic institutes. Important to China's international trade, this natural deep water port has trading partners in 450 ports worldwide. The Port of Qingdao consists of three port areas: the Old Port, the Huangdao Oil Port, and Qianwan New Port. The Port of Qingdao handles a wide range of project equipment and general and bulk cargo. The five main cargo types it handles are grain, coal, iron ore, crude oil, and containers, although fertilizer, cement, alumina, sodium carbonate, ironware, lumber, cotton, and rubber are also important cargos.
  • The Port of Shanghai is a natural deepwater port and shipping centre. It is China's major transportation hub for industrial products going everywhere in China. Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal Development Co., Ltd. is a major construction project. Located in the North Bund Area, it covers an area of almost 100 miles with a waterfront of about one-half a mile. Covering the next five years, Shanghai port’s development blueprint calls for development of the cruise business and for Shanghai to become a homeport. Cruising has grown quickly in the Port of Shanghai, and the volume of calls and passengers continues to increase dramatically. The cruise market has huge potential due to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the 2010 World Expo to be hosted by Shanghai.
  • Ningbo Port consists of 5 port areas of Beilun, Zhenhai, Ningbo old port, Daxie and Chuanshan. It is a modern comprehensive multifunctional deep-water port, combining inland, estuary and coastal harbors. Now there are 191 operational berths including 39 deep-water berths with 10,000 and more tonnage. The larger ones include the 250,000 tonnage crude oil terminal, the 200,000 tonnage ore discharging berth (also for 300,000 tonnage ships), the specialized terminal for the 6th generation container vessel and the 50,000 tonnage berth dedicated for liquid chemical products. Up to now shipping lines have been opened to more than 560 ports of over 90 countries and regions. Ningbo Port is well situated in the middle of China's coastline, at the T-shaped joining point of China's coastline and the Yangtze River. It's a famous deep-water port of mainland China.
  • XIAMEN PORT, as an exclusive port approved by the State Council to implement certain free port policies, Xiamen Port Longitude, 118 04 15 E. Latitude, 24 29 20 N. is a multi-functional, comprehensive modernised harbour with foreign trade and offshore industry as the mainstay, supplemented with tourism, passenger transport, international transhipment, commerce and transit. As an important traditional port for direct shipping service between the mainland and Taiwan, it has broad prospects for development. The best deepwater port along the several-thousand-kilometre-long coastline between Guangzhou and Ningbo, Xiamen Port is wide and deep, ice-free, and little silted. The 64.5 km natural coast lines around the port area maintains a depth of at least 12-meters.
  • Shenzhen Port has made great strides. So far, the port has invested a total of more than 30 billion yuan of construction funds, forming Shekou, Chi Ma Wan, Yim, East Point head, Fukunaga, Sand Quarry Bay, the next hole, nine river ports, the end of 2005, a total of 24,455.3 m quay built, with more than 500 tons, 143 berths, of which 57 million tons of berths, 92 berths operational, operating more than one ton berths 49; container berths 23; owner of Pier 10 berths, of which 10,000 tons berths 3; passenger ferry berths 18; non-productive berths 23. In the formation of integrated design throughput 106.924 million tons, of which the design throughput capacity of 9.12 million container TEUs (including non-professional container terminal capacity); passenger capacity 5.5 million passengers, the ferry capacity of 180,000 vehicle trips through.
  • Nansha Port Area is mainly located in Huangge and Longxue Island of Nansha District. Nansha Phase One and Phase Two Container Terminals, Grain and Multi-purpose Terminal, Nansha Automobile Terminal and three petrochemical terminals------Gangfa, Xiaohu and Jiantao all locate at this area. Xinsha Port Area possesses 10 deep water berths for container, coal, bulk grain, automobile and bulk cargo with 2,000 meters quay-line. Huangpu Port Area includes Guangzhou Container Terminal, Xingang Terminal, Xiji Terminal, Hunagpu Old Terminal and Petrochemical Terminal. Terminal is one of the earliest container terminals in Mainland China, with 3 berths of 35,000 tonnage class and 645 meters quay-line. Xingang Terminal is mainly engaged in cargoes like bulk grain, steel and break bulk, with 5 berths of 35,000 tonnage class and 937 meters quay-line.
