Asian Market Roundup May 13

China

The Chinese mainland stock markets edged up on Wednesday.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 45.59 points, or 1.74 percent, finishing at 2663.77 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 115.22 points, or 1.13 percent, to close at 10294.37.

Japan

Tokyo stocks closed slightly higher Wednesday with the key Nikkei index up 0.45 percent.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average gained 41.88 points to 9,340. 49.

The broader Topix index was up 3.32 points to 888.75.

Australia

The  Australian share market  closed weaker in light trading Wednesday as investors digested Tuesday's federal Budget.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 21.1 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 3856.1,

The broader All Ordinaries index also dropped 21.1 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 3842.5.
