Shanghai World Expo sells 1 million tickets

More than 1 million entrance tickets for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai have been sold, of which approximately 180,000 tickets were sold on the first day of ticket sales. This is according to Hong Hao, Director-General of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination who talked with domestic and foreign reporters at an interview on April 27.

The overall ticketing plan for the Shanghai World Expo was formally announced on February 26 in Beijing.

The booking for group entrance tickets began on March 27, and the booking for individual entrance tickets is due to start on July 1 this year.

Hong said that the general budget for operation of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai stands at 10.6 billion yuan, 6 billion yuan of which will be covered by revenue from ticket sales.

The World Expo 2010 Shanghai, which will be held from May 1, 2010 to October 31 of the same year, is expected to attract 70 million tourists from home and abroad, with around 5 percent of them coming from overseas.
