China terminates anti-dumping investigation on equipment from Japan

Apr 21, 2009 Trade

China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said it stopped the anti-dumping investigation of chemical equipment imported from Japan Monday.

The equipment, which is known as gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer (GC/MS), was widely used in agriculture, chemistry, medicine and biology science as a standard instrument to identify substances in a given sample.

The MOC said in a bulletin on its Web site that the move was in response to a Chinese company's application to cancel the anti-dumping investigation.

The MOC began to investigate the issue on June 5 last year after Beijing-based East and West Analytical Instruments. Inc. handed over an application to the MOC which demanded the ministry to launch the investigation.

The suspension is in line with the 27th clause of the country's anti-dumping regulation, said the MOC.

According to the regulation, the country should terminate anti-dumping investigation on the condition that the applicant demands a suspension.

Representatives from the Chinese East and West Analytical Instruments Inc. were unable to be reached for comment.
