HK's building unit sales dip 22.2% in 2008

There were 113,298 sale and purchase agreements for all types of building units registered in 2008 in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Land Registry said on Tuesday.

The figure is down 22.2 percent on 2007 but up 14.3 percent on 2006.

The total consideration involved in these agreements was 413.11billion HK dollars (53.34 billion U.S. dollars), down 21.4 percent on 2007 but up 31.1 percent on 2006.

There were 162,912 assignments of building units lodged for registration in 2008, up 2.9 percent on 2007 and 29.3 percent on 2006.

The total consideration totaled 543.47 billion HK dollars (70. 17 billion U.S. dollars), up 15.3 percent on 2007 and 64.9 percent on 2006.

There were 4,684,327 searches for land records, down 1.6 percent on 2007 but up 18.3 percent on 2006, the registry said.
