The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service will begin issuing permits for imports into the United States of fresh white asparagus from Senegal.
We believe that the application of one or more designated phytosanitary measures will be sufficient to mitigate the risks of introducing or disseminating plant pests or noxious weeds, said the agency in a Dec. 19 Federal Register notice.
To comply with the permits, each shipment of white asparagus must be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by Senegal's national plant protection organization. Each shipment is also subject to inspection upon arrival in the United States.
