Aug 25, 2008 Trade

Experts and officials from 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) held a meeting Sunday in Peru to promote the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region.

The ideas that will be shared here will help improve the performance of the SMEs, Peruvian official Luis Quezada said during the inauguration of the APEC forum in the city of Chiclayo, 750 km northwest of the country's capital Lima.

During the meeting, issues concerning goods, services as well as simplifying the opening procedure will be discussed, Quezada said.

Chiclayo's meeting serves as a preparation for the APEC leaders' meeting on Nov. 16-23 in Lima.

During the meeting, Canadian official Anne Pigeon presented an APEC poll about license obtaining.

Pigeon said the poll was not a scientific study, but it was important because 14 of 21 APEC economies participated in the survey.
