Bangladesh's export earning in 2007- 08 fiscal year (July 2007-June 2008) recorded 14.01 billion U.S. dollars, marking more than 15 percent growth over that of previous fiscal, said official statistics.
According to the provisional statistics of the Bangladesh's Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) released Sunday, the export earning, however, fell short of target by nearly 3.5 percent.
The government set the export target at 14.5 billion U.S. dollars for 2007-08 fiscal.
When contacted by Xinhua on Sunday, Secretary of Bangladesh's Ministry of Commerce said, "We are happy with the export performance. It's really impressive."
Trade analysts said Bangladesh's export earning could not achieve target because of slump of developed economies.
The contribution of garments, which occupied more than 76 percent of the country's 12.18 billion U.S. dollars export in 2006- 07 fiscal year, also remained the same as top export earning sector in 2007-08 fiscal.
