Hong Kong Export Volume Up 8 Pct in May

Hong Kong's total goods export volume in May rose 8 percent, while goods import volume grew 11.4 percent, the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said Thursday.


Among the total, the re-exports volume rose 9.2 percent and the domestic export volume dropped 17.8 percent.


The month saw a rise of 4.1 percent in total goods export prices and 4.5 percent in import prices. Goods re-exports prices rose four percent and domestic exports prices were up 4.9 percent, the Census and Statistics Department said.


The volume of Hong Kong's goods re-exports in the first five months rose 10.6 percent year on year, while that of domestic exports fell 10.5 percent. Total goods export volume grew 9.7 percent while goods import volume rose 9.8 percent.


The five-month period saw the prices of goods re-exports rise three percent, and those of domestic exports grow four percent. Total goods export prices rose 3.1 percent while import prices rose four percent.
