Huawei helps Bangladeshi university set up lab and training center

Chinese Huawei Technologies ( Bangladesh) Ltd. signed an agreement here Wednesday with Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for setting up a wireless communication lab and training center in the university.


According to Zhang Hui, chief representative of Huawei in Bangladesh, Huawei will donate 3 million U.S. dollars GSM equipment to BUET to set up a full-fledged GSM lab in the university as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility.


Hossain Zillur Rahman, education adviser (status as minister) of Bangladeshi caretaker government, said at the signing ceremony, There are two messengers coming from this ceremony, one is the new type of cooperation between business and academies, one is Corporate Social Responsibility becomes a reality from a seminar discussion.


Rahman said Huawei is the first company to cooperate with an academy. He hoped other companies will learn from it.


He thanked Huawei for its generous help for BUET and hoped BUET will use the resources in the best way.


Chinese Embassy Charge d'Affairs Wang Yu said at the function Huawei Technologies (Bangladesh) Ltd. has made great achievements and become the No. 1 telecom solutions provider in Bangladesh.


Wang said Huawei set a good example for taking the Corporate Social Responsibility which has deepened friendship between the two peoples and the two nations.


Huawei entered into Bangladesh market in 1998. With 10 years development, Huawei has now employed more than 800 people out of whom 700 are locals, and more than 200 staff graduated from BUET.


BUET has a history over 100 years. It got the current name in 1971.
