BIS commends Singapore on transshipment export controls

Jun 4, 2008 Trade

Officials from the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security met with their counterparts from Singapore Friday to discuss ongoing bilateral engagement and future cooperation in addressing transshipment and other export control issues.

The bureau said it welcomed Singapore's recent adoption of the expanded control list and conveyed interest in continuing to enhance collaboration on export control enforcement and other related matters.

BIS commends and supports Singapore's efforts and commitment to further enhance its comprehensive export control system, said Mario Mancuso, Under Secretary of Commerce, in a statement. Because the Port of Singapore is one of the world's busiest transshipment ports, it is critical that we continue to work with our counterparts in Singapore to remain vigilant against the risk of illicit transshipment and to foster legitimate trade.
