Bulgaria Ranks First In EU in Rising Food Prices

Bulgaria ranks first among all member states of the European Union in the growth of food prices, local press reported Monday citing the latest research data of the EUROSTAT.


The data show that food prices in the poorest EU member state went up 25.4 percent between April 2007 and April 2008. Portugal is on the other pole with a price increase of only 3.2 percent.


In this ranking, Bulgaria is followed by two other Eastern European states - Latvia (21.7 percent) and Estonia (18.3 percent).
