SHANGHAI's imports from Japan in March increased by 12.4 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua, citing figures released by customs.
But the year-on-year increase was down 3.6 per cent points compared to that of February, due to the impact from the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear leakage in Japan.
As Shanghai's third-largest overseas trade partner, the volume of imports and exports between the city and Japan in the first quarter of 2010 totalled US$24.29 billion, up 24.5 per cent year on year, although growth slowed. The growth stood at 39.6 per cent to $8.2 billion in January, and then it slipped to 25.1 per cent to $14.56 during the first two months.
