NINGBO customs processed 158,600 tonnes of Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) imports from Taiwan in the first two months of the year, taking up 57.2 per cent of the national total, which ranked it first in China.

These imports, valued US$240 million, enjoyed tariff exemption or reduction totalling CNY38.6 million (US$5.9 million), said Xinhua.

An unnamed person from the Ningbo customs said that as a chemical industry base in China, Ningbo has large demand for chemical materials. Since the ECFA early harvest scheme launched in January 1, there have been 154,700 tonnes of chemicals processed by customs.

During the first two months, categories of Ningbo's imports under ECFA expanded from chemicals at first and then extended to textiles, machinery and electronics.

In January and February, Ningbo's trade with Taiwan valued $1.6 billion, up 32 per cent year on year. Imports grew 32.5 per cent to $1.5 billion.
