Industrial production in the euro zone increased by 0.3 percent in January, compared with the previous month, Eurostat, statistical bureau of the European Union (EU), said Monday.
Revised figures showed industrial production in the euro zone grew by 0.3 percent in December last year on a monthly basis.
In January, production of both intermediate goods and durable consumer goods increased by 2.5 percent compared with the previous month. Production of energy dropped the most, down by 3.1 percent in the euro zone, while production of capital goods declined by 0.3 percent and non-durable consumer goods dropped by 0.4 percent.
Year on year, eurozone industrial production increased by 6.6 percent in January.
In the 27-nation EU, industrial production gained 0.6 percent in January compared with December, and by 6.8 percent over a year before.
Among the member states for which data were available, industrial production rose in 14 and fell in five countries on a monthly basis. The most significant increase was registered in Malta, up by 6.0 percent, while the largest decrease was registered in Portugal, down by 4.2 percent.
Industrial production in Germany, the largest economy in the EU, increased by 0.1 percent month on month in January.
