Eurozone construction output drops 0.9% in November

Construction output in both the eurozone and the wider European Union (EU) dropped in November compared with the previous month, EU statistical bureau Eurostat said on Wednesday.


Construction output in the eurozone fell 0.9 percent in November month-on-month. Building construction declined 0.9 percent while civil engineering fell 2.8 percent.


For the 27-member EU, construction output in November decreased 0.4 percent from October and fell 1.7 percent year-on-year.


Among the member states for which data were available, the highest monthly increase was seen in Portugal, which rose 4 percent. The sharpest decrease was registered in Romania, down by 4.6 percent.


The construction output of Germany, the leading economy in the eurozone, declined by 1.1 percent over the previous month.


Revised figures showed that construction output increased by 0.3 percent in the eurozone and by 0.6 percent in the EU in October compared with the previous month.
