Vietnam pocketed over 3.4 billion U.S. dollars from exporting wood and wood products in 2010, up 33.3 percent year-on-year, according to a report by Vietnam's General Statistics Office on Monday.

The export value has exceeded the year's target of 3 billion U.S. dollars, according to Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Processing Association.

The country earned 330 million U.S. dollars from sales of wood and wood products to world markets in last December, posting an increase of 17.85 percent over the same period, said the report.

The association said the sector enjoyed some advantages in 2010, including the increase in the price of wood products and the demands for Vietnamese wood products in major markets.

Major markets for Vietnamese wood and wood products last year included the United States, the European Union and Japan.

Despite some shortages of raw materials this year, Vietnam's export turnover for wood and wood products is expected to reach 4 billion U.S dollars in 2011, up 30 percent year-on-year, according to the association.
