Brazil's balance of payments surplus up 9.7% in 2010

Brazil accumulated a surplus of 46.3 billion U.S. dollars in its balance of payments in the first 11 months of 2010, the country's Central Bank announced on Tuesday.


This is 9.7 percent higher on a yearly basis. The positive figures can be attributed to the capital and financial account which registered a surplus of 90.74 billion dollars, up 56.7 percent year on year.


The current transactions, on the other hand, accumulated a deficit of 43.45 billion dollars, up 136.8 percent year on year. Overseas unilateral transfers totaled 2.6 billion dollars, down 14.7 percent year on year.


In November, the balance of payments had a surplus of 2.99 billion dollars, down 22.7 percent year on year. The current transactions had a deficit of 4.69 billion dollars, up 43.4 percent year on year. The capital and financial account had a surplus of 7.82 billion dollars.


Direct foreign investments totaled 3.73 billion dollars in November, up 132 percent year on year and totaled 33.13 billion dollars in the first 11 months of the year, up 59 percent year on year.
