BEIJING achieved a foreign trade value of US$95.3 billion from January to April, a sharp increase of 68 per cent over the same period in the preceding year, Logistics Week reported.
Export value increased 11.3 per cent to $16.8 billion. Import value soared 88.5 per cent to $78.5 billion. Trade deficit surged 130 per cent to $61.7 billion.
Value of Beijing's bilateral trade with the European Union rose 32.4 per cent to $11.8 billion. Trade with Angola tripled to $7.5 billion in value. Trade with Saudi Arabia surged 94 per cent to $6.7 billion. Trade with ASEAN jumped 64.6 per cent to $6.6 billion. Beijing-Japan trade increased 37.6 per cent to $5.9 billion. Trade with US rose 17.7 per cent to $5.7 billion.
In April, Beijing's foreign trade value increased 64.8 per cent year on year, 2.1 per cent compared to March and 20.7 per cent compared to April 2008. Export value rose 10.3 per cent to 4.2 billion. Import value soared 81.7 per cent to a historical high of $22.6 billion.
