Singapore's April global trade exports up 2.1pc

SINGAPORE's non-oil domestic exports (NDOX) rose 2.1 per cent in April, after the previous month's 2.9 per cent increase, a year-on-year growth of 29 per cent with re-exports slipping slightly to 0.6 per cent during April, after a 6.3 per cent expansion in the previous month.

But in April Singapore trade in NDOX with US, China and Hong Kong trade rose by 46 per cent, 30 per cent and 41 per cent respectively, according to government statistics.

Singapore trade with Hong Kong rose by 41 per cent in April, electronic domestic registering a 43 per cent increase, after the 41 per cent rise in the previous month, due to higher domestic exports of parts of ICs (+104 per cent), ICs (+45 per cent) and parts of PCs (+35 per cent). Non-electronic domestic increased by 37 per cent due to higher sales of printed matter (+707 per cent), petrochemicals (+30 per cent) and electrical machinery (+56 per cent).

Non-electronic domestic to the US grew by 113 per cent in April, after the 11 per cent rise in the preceding month. The increase was led by higher domestic exports of ships and boats, measuring instruments (+200 per cent) and specialised machinery (+228 per cent). Electronic domestic expanded by 3.1 per cent after the 12 per cent increase in the previous month which was mainly led by higher domestic exports of parts of PCs (+24 per cent), disk drives (+21 per cent) and printers (+258 per cent).

China trade increased by 30 per cent doubling its 12 per cent increase in both electronic and non-electronic domestic movements. Electronic domestic exports to China decreased to 29 per cent in April after a 69 per cent increase in March.

Malaysia trade rose 20 per cent after 40 per cent increase month previous before due to slower non-electronic domestic movement. But electronic domestic exports to Malaysia increased 13 per cent in April after a 25 per cent March increase.

Indonesia trade increased 25 per cent less than its 55 per cent increase in the preceding month, due to higher sales of non-electronic domestic. Electronic to Indonesia contracted by 2.7 per cent in April due to lower domestic exports of capacitors (-56 per cent), resistors (-44 per cent) and parts of ICs (-20 per cent).

Japanese trade increased 29 per cent compared to the previous month's 35 per cent rise, due to higher electronic and non-electronic NODX sales.

Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea trade increased 39 per cent, 31 per cent and 57 per cent respectively due to higher electronic and non-electronic NODX sales.

NODX to emerging markets which includes Taiwan, Thailand and South Korea increased 32 per cent, after a 23 per cent growth in the previous month, due to increased shipments to Latin America and South Asia.
