CONTAINER volume at the southern California's ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach increased for the fifth consecutive month in April after and 18-month decline.
April volume at Long Beach was up 18.7 per cent to 485,059 TEU, reported American Shipper. At Los Angeles, April throughput rose 11.9 per cent to 595,283 TEU.
But looking back, Long Beach volume was down 12.9 per cent on April 2008 volume and 16.3 per cent down on April 2007.
From the first of the year till May, Long Beach volume was up 16.6 per cent to 1.75 million TEU, while Los Angeles improved 8.9 per cent to 2.2 million TEU on that basis.
