THE US Department of Agriculture's (USDA) annual Prospective Plantings report shows US corn acreage at 88.8 million, up three per cent, which means American farmers will be able to deliver crops to the world at competitive prices, says the US Grains Council.
"US farmers' top-of-the-line technology and modern farming techniques ensure a high quality product," said Tim Burrack, Iowa Corn Promotion Board chairman. "We are able to meet the needs of our customers around the world."
Ron Gray, Illinois corn farmer and former president of Illinois Corn Marketing Board, said: "This acreage increase reflects America's capacity to sustain US market share around the world at a competitive price."
The Washington-based US Grains Council is a private, non-profit partnership of farmers and agribusinesses committed to building and expanding international markets for US barley, corn, grain sorghum and by-products. State funding and federal matching funds from the USDA, resulting in a US$26 million budget, augment financial support from private industry.
