Israel's Ashdod ranks China No 1 for imports - US, No 10

ONE of Israel's main ports, Ashdod, reported its highest imports were from China at 77,967-TEU (807,000 M/T) compared to an export figure of 1,023-TEU to China.

According to Israel's Port2Port account of its container handling breakdown for 2009, Turkey was second largest source of imports and exports at 45,510 TEU (638,000 tonnes) 6,412 TEU respectively. Italy followed at 44,520 TEU imported and 19,071 TEU exported.

The country to take fourth was Belgium at 44,167 TEU imported, 17,325 TEU exported; fifth was Germany at 23,607 TEU imported and 11,408 TEU imported; Egypt was sixth in imports and exports at 19,822-TEU, 19,791-TEU respectively.

Seventh ranking was Vietnam with only import registered at 18,799 followed by Spain at 14,790 imported and 8,807 exported. Holland came in at ninth 13,530 imports and 6,487 exports.

The US ranked 10th at 12,879-TEU imported and 1,660-TEU exported via Ashdod port.
