Chinese shares dip 2.34% on weak heavyweights

Chinese equities ended 2.34 percent lower Tuesday as heavyweights weakened in the afternoon.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 69.46 points to finish at 2,897.55.

The Shenzhen Component Index retreated 1.92 percent, or 231.75 points, to finish at 11,813.46.

Combined turnover fell slightly to 222.77 billion yuan ($32.76 billion) from 231.99 billion yuan ($33.99 billion) on the previous trading day.

Losers outnumbered gainers by 747 to 114 in Shanghai and 637 to 125 in Shenzhen.
