Cargo boom for Donrechflot

Jul 13, 2009 Trade

SOUTHERN Russia's Donrechflot shipping company today reported nearly a 70% increase in cargo transport for this year's first half, from the same period last year.

The company, part of the Azovo-Don Shipping, reported that it had shipped 716,227 tonnes of cargo during the first six months of the year.

Much of the boost in trade had come from transporting ferrous metals, which increased by 43.5% against 1H08 and amounted to 47,495 tonnes. Sulphur cargos also climbed by 8.7% to 214,967 tonnes, compared with 1H08.

The company said one reason for the rises was that it had decreased the distances over which it was transporting cargo.

Another reason was that in contrast to last year – when it had leased part of its fleet out to other companies – it was now managing its stock of ships entirely by itself.
