Oregon and Washington ports levy wide-ranging tariff hikes

Jul 7, 2009 Trade

OREGON and Washington port authorities, speaking through the Northwest Marine Terminal Association (NMTA), have announced increased tariffs this month, reported American Shipper.

"In many instances, this will involve labour and or tonnage rate increases stemming from increases announced by the Pacific Maritime Association June 19," said NMTA executive officer Patti Fulghum.

"Tariff rate increases may be instituted with less than 30 days' advance notice as a result of member ports being apprised of PMA changes on short notice. Parties with specific questions about tariff rates at a particular port are encouraged to contact that port or visit its website," she said in a statement.

The association represents the ports of Anacortes, Astoria, Bellingham, Coos Bay, Everett, Grays Harbor, Kalama, Longview, Olympia, Port Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Tacoma and Vancouver (Washington).
