Far East-Med services cut 24pc in last year, not by half

Jun 24, 2009 Trade

TUESDAY's enews carried an item about a report by Dutch consultant Dynamar, which should have reported a 24 per cent drop in container services between Far East and the Mediterranean rather than saying they had been cut by half.

There were 17 such services in operation as of early June, with 166 ships deployed on those routes compared to 280 a year ago. Capacity has been reduced less sharply, by 24 per cent to 1.03 million TEU, with annual capacity down 35 per cent to 3.9 million TEU.
