Jun 23, 2009 Trade

HONG KONG's Toll Global Forwarding (TGF), the forwarding and logistics arm of Australia's Toll Holdings, has appointed Hakan Bicil as its new regional managing director for Europe and Middle East, replacing John Gomes, who is retiring, but will retain a consultancy role in the business.

Mr Bicil's 17-year career in freight has included a variety of sales and operational posts with Schenker and lately with Kuehne and Nagel, where he served as vice president global business development, said a Toll statement.

In his new position, Mr Bicil will be responsible for further developing TGF's European and Mideast business - which it acquired with the 2008 takeover of Hong Kong's BALtrans.

Said Mr Bicil: "This is a rare and exciting ground floor opportunity and I look forward to playing my own part in realising the huge potential of Toll as a major force in global forwarding and logistics."

Hong Kong-based TGF itself has 65 company-owned offices across 26 countries in Asia, Australia, the Americas, Europe, Middle East and Africa - within a global partner network totalling more than 700 sites in 45 countries.

Toll is the Asian region's leading provider of integrated logistics services, generating annual consolidated revenue of A$5.6 billion (U$4.5 billion).
