HONG KONG's Chief Executive Donald Tsang was to officiate at the opening ceremony of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) diplomatic conference on ship recycling this week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The event entitled International Conference on the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships will be used as a platform to adopt the International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships, which aims to ensure ships at the end of their operational lives do not endanger human health, safety or the environment.
Other officiating guests include IMO secretary general Efthimios Mitropoulos, vice minister of transport of the People's Republic of China, Xu Zuyuan, transport and housing secretary Eva Cheng, and Hong Kong director of marine Roger Tupper, a Hong Kong government statement said.
