Almost 500 newbuildings cancelled at the world’s shipyards: DNV

May 11, 2009 Shipping

According to the Norwegian class society DNV, 492 vessels of a combined 37.2 million tons deadweight have been cancelled at the world’s shipyards. Of these, 325 vessels of 28.2 million tons are bulkers. This is reported by Lloyd’s List that stresses that the figures are almost double those that of Lloyd’s Register’s estimate.
This shows the uncertainty in the market as shipyards are reluctant to inform when an order are cancelled or to reveal negotiations on cancellations or delays of deliveries.
