BIMCO says goodbye to Melchiors, hello again to Skaanild

Mar 13, 2008 Shipping

BIMCO, the world's largest shipping association, said Tuesday that Secretary General Carsten Melchiors has been "relieved from his duties with immediate effect."

The executive committee of the Denmark-based association has named Melchiors successor as Torben C. Skaanild, who previously held the post from 1984 to 1991. Deputy Secretary General S鴕en Larsen remains.

Skaanild's more than 25-year shipping career includes time at The East Asiatic Co. Ltd. and World-Wide Shipping. He is group chairman of Dynatest International A/S.

BIMCO was established in 1905 and has about 2,400 members worldwide that control a fleet of about 525 million deadweight tons, estimated to represent 65 percent of the world's merchant fleet.
