Maersk to increase North America-Med rates May 1

MAERSK Line will impose rate increases from North America to the Mediterranean effective May 1, and expects to impose another from June 15 depending on market trends.

Rates will increase by US$80 per TEU and $120 per FEU and high cube or 45' container from the US and Canada to Mediterranean ports .

The hike follows an "unsustainable" fall in rate levels, coupled with equipment shortages in some regions and delays onshore as well as reduction in available capacity, said the Danish shipping giant.

The expected June 15 increase is planned at $100 per TEU, $150 per FEU and high cube or 45-foot container.
