GAC has appointed Björn Brödje as its new Marine and Safety Manager, effective 2 April. Based in Dubai, Brödje will play a key role as part of the global hub services team. His main responsibility is to streamline best practices in marine and safety within the Group to provide better services for its principals. He reports directly to Tom Bjorklund, General Manager of GAC’s Global Hub Services.
“With Björn on board we aim to take an even firmer grip on our auditing processes and to cascade best safety practices within the Group,” says Mr. Bjorklund. “With his wealth of experience, we look forward to widening the global hub services portfolio beyond existing hub work to bring value added services to our customers thereby further enhancing our customer relationship management.”
Commitment
Group President, Lars Säfverström says having a dedicated resource reflects the Group’s commitment to its Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policy.
“Our clients look to us to always have structured and focused HSSE strategy and practices wherever they go,” he adds. “Our goals are simple – no harm to people, no accidents, no security breaches and no damage to the environment. Having the highest standard in our operations makes good business, and we see this development as a strategic investment.”
Strong background
Björn has a strong seafaring background as Master onboard oil and chemical tankers, and has served as Marine Consultant specialising in ISM & ISPS management systems on-shore. In addition, he educates the safe handling of oil and chemicals on board tankers and at terminals at Chalmers Technical University, Sweden as well as on environmental and contingency training for tanker owners and crew. Since 2007, he is a fully accredited Vetting Inspector by OCIMF, inspecting on behalf of Chevron, Shell Cobra, LUKOIL and Preem Petroleum.
Prior to his new appointment, he was HSSE & Quality Superintendent with GAC’s Gulf Transfer Services entrusted with the responsibility of creating, implementing and auditing a Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 9000, ISO 14000 and OSHAS 18000.
HSSE initiatives
Brödje's appointment coincides with the Group-wide expansion in environmental awareness through The Chairman's Award for Environmental Excellence. The award focuses on the Group's front line operations and recognises initiatives by local companies that achieve measurable environmental gains in the workplace and in the local community. These multi-pronged developments underline GAC’s dedication to corporate social responsibility.
