Logwin, in partnership with its international forwarding agent, Wikestrom & Krogius, has been awarded a five-year contract to provide logistics and operational services for Wartsila, eyefortransport reports.
The agreement includes the management, transportation and distribution of approximately 70,000 tonnes a year of power-related cargo from the client's Shanghai hub to Europe.
Given the increase in power-related components originating from China, Logwin has assisted Wartsila in the development and completion of a 3,100 m2 facility that will provide the company with comprehensive logistics services ranging from quality inspections, local warehousing, packaging, shipment consolidation and distribution capabilities.
The new facility will enable Wartsila to consolidate goods from multiple suppliers in China, including quality control and inspection of goods on arrival at the centre to the repackaging of the cargo into full container loads for shipment to Finland, Italy and other European destinations.
Logwin will also provide specialised logistics services that entails the management of the 1,868 m2 cross docking area where goods are recovered, opened, sorted, tallied and re-packed.
Luxembourg-based Logwin has served the maritime industry for twenty years. The Wartsila contract follows the launch of the Logwin Boat IT platform, specifically designed to offer customers, such as those in the ship building business with sophisticated supplier networks, an integrated and transparent service package that supports the punctual delivery of components and spare parts.
