Bergen, Norway-based tanker operator Odfjell has signed agreements with the Chuan Dong Shipyard to build a series of six 9,000-deadweight-ton stainless steel chemical tankers for delivery in 2010-2012 for a total of $180 million.
The company said the ships will operate in regional trades in Asia and Europe, and will replace smaller vessels trading in these areas.
The company also has the option of building four optional tankers.
Odfjell has a fleet of about 100 tankers and is one of the big three operators of parcel and chemical tankers along with Stolt-Nielsen and Jo Tankers.
