Ningbo-Taiwan direct shipping box volume close to 10,000 TEU

Mar 11, 2009 Shipping

DURING the two months since December 15 when Ningbo and Taiwan first started cross-straits direct shipping, the Ningbo customs has handled 35 ships serving such lines with containers of nearly 10,000 TEU, Xinhua reported.

In order to speed up the clearance process, Ningbo customs set up a dedicated counter for direct shipping operating 24 hours a day and reducing clearance procedures for known Taiwan shippers. The customs also work overtime for perishable goods.

In the past, Taiwan imports needed to take a detour to Japan before they can reach Ningbo, which would take three to four days. Launch of direct shipping has shortened the shipping time by one day on average.
