Senior liner managers foresee Intra-Asia March/April volumes to surge 20 per cent

Mar 11, 2009 Shipping

SENIOR shipping executives attending the recent Taipei Port opening earlier this week say they are expecting a 20 per cent increase in Intra Asia short sea volumes for March and April, United Daily News reports.

The Hong Kong Shipping Gazette earlier contacted one senior manager at a Taiwanese shipping company to confirm the report.

We do feel some improvement, but most of these are urgent orders, the manager said.

Nevertheless, the executive did acknowledge a marked increase in the expected volumes for the coming two months.

Whether the growth can be maintained beyond March and April, the executive is unsure at this stage.

We may need to observe for at least one or two months to be certain, he said.
