Maersk Line announced rate increases for all cargo in the Asia to Europe trade. Rate increases are necessary
to continue to operate services with the high level of reliability its customers have come to expect from Maersk Line. Maersk Line will implement the increase in two stages, as follows:
Asia (except Taiwan) to North Europe and Mediterranean:
- USD 250 per TEU/main port. Effective 1 April 2009
- USD 300 per TEU/out port. Effective 1 April 2009
- USD 300 per TEU/main port. Effective 1 July 2009
- USD 350 per TEU/out port. Effective 1 July 2009
Taiwan to North Europe and Mediterranean:
- USD 250 per TEU/main port. Effective 9 April 2009
- USD 300 per TEU/out port. Effective 9 April 2009
- USD 300 per TEU/main port. Effective 1 July 2009
- USD 350 per TEU/out port. Effective 1 July 2009
The rate increase applies for all equipment types. Furthermore, Maersk Line will be increasing its rate offers to inland haulage locations during April and May 2009.
Maersk Line is dedicated to the Asia - Europe trade and is committed to maintain its service level and coverage. Therefore, Maersk Line is continuously optimising its network and looking for ways to make its operations more cost effective and competitive.

Unsustainable rates and improved demand lead to rate increases effective 1 April 2009. Rate increases are necessary to continue to operate Maersk Line services with the high level of reliability its customers have come to expect from Maersk Line.
The filed increases are as follows on Eastbound services from Northern Europe, North Africa and Mediterranean to Middle East and South Asia:
- USD 50 per 20' dry container and reefer
- USD 100 per 40' dry container and reefer
The increase applies equally to all cargo and commodities.
