Feb 25, 2009 Shipping

MAERSK Line has announced a freight rate increase on the transatlantic starting April 1, saying the hike was needed to retain services at present levels of reliability.

Increase between north Europe and the North American east and Gulf coast ports will be US$160 per TEU and $220 per FEU and high cube or 45-footer/reefers.

North Europe and North American west coast port increase will be $200 per TEU dry container, $300 per FEU, and high cube or 45-foot container/reefer.

These increases apply to eastbound and westbound cargo between the US, Canada and northern Europe, said a company statement.
